Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
“Get the Dirt on KIB” is a promotional handout used to quickly familiarize community members with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB). The piece demonstrates the impact that KIB has made each year in Indianapolis by showing the exact amount of work KIB does in each program area of the organization. The handout also showcases specific awards and recognitions that KIB has received during the year. It provides a quick reference to the work done by KIB each year. This piece condenses all of our varied programs down to the essential statistics, allowing our constituents to "Get the Dirt" on us in a matter of moments, which is an innovative way for us to get our message across both quickly and creatively. We hand the sheet out, but we also have used it, in smaller form, as a buckslip to include in our solicitations.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) sees the ongoing need to familiarize Indianapolis residents with our organization’s work and mission. Our mission is to build community and transform public spaces through aesthetic and environmental improvement. We have 8 programs with which we engage the community groups that come to us, and it's impossible to describe all of these in just a few seconds, which is sometimes all you have when someone is viewing your materials and making their first impression. While we have other, more comprehensive brochures, the "Get the Dirt" fact sheet provides a quick overview of our programs and impacts over the last year, through bright, engaging graphics that draw the reader in. This fact sheet encourages people to participate with KIB and gives a quick glimpse of all that KIB has to offer to community volunteers; it shows how their participation has made an impact on the Indianapolis community.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
By using the “Get the Dirt on KIB” promotional handout, interested individuals can quickly browse the different program areas and their impact over the past year. With this fact sheet, we now have a piece that will draw in visitors to our table at community events, or quickly translate to someone who has never heard of us who we are and what we do. This is vital for us, as a nonprofit organization always looking to draw in new followers, whether they be volunteers or donors or interested community members. We know that increasingly, potential supporters are investigating charities before they donate, whether it be on Charity Navigator, or even by asking a friend what they know about the group. Having measurable accomplishments summarized and readily available when people inquire is a strong way to convey the strength of an organization, even more important in these somewhat troubled economic times. We are grateful to have had Adobe products to help us create such a great piece!
