Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
Our website and The Flowers for Food Calendar was created using Adobe CS4 products. This site promotes the Sedona Community Center, a non-profit organization providing support services to older adults in Greater Sedona and responds to the community with programs and activities for people of all ages. Our primary support service is the Meals on Wheels program. The Food for Flowers Calendar supports Meals on Wheels.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
In the midst of our current economic crisis the need for Meals on Wheels has increased while financial support has been on the decline. We have launched the "Flowers for Food" calendar program to raise awareness and the funds needed to support our Meals on Wheels program. Bob Coates, a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels, envisioned and made the Flowers for Food a reality. Mr. Coates is volunteering his time and talent for this project.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
The creation and printing of the calendar has already paid for itself through corporate partnership and local business sponsorships. The calendar has received $600 in presales, but officially launches this fall. We anticipate it may generate between $5000 and $10,000 toward our senior meals programs. The Flowers for Food project has been an incredible blessing to the Sedona Community Center.
