Impact Essay

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead

VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads holds this belief at the core of its mission. With over 50 years of experience in working with nonprofits and volunteers; we know how to identify and address real community needs, organize effective volunteer opportunities, manage projects and people, and what it takes to motivate volunteers. We also understand businesses and how to plan and manage workplace volunteer programs that effectively meet the goals of companies, employees and the community.

The Hampton Roads Corporate Volunteer Council (HRCVC) is our tool to support excellent workplace volunteerism. The Corporate Volunteer Council is the primary local resource to encourage, educate and connect businesses that support employee volunteer programs as a business strategy that benefits the whole community. It facilitates professional development, heightens knowledge of community needs and serves as a catalyst for businesses to build, implement and promote successful outreach programs.

VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads purchased Adobe InDesign CS 3.0 in order to communicate better with nonprofit peers, businesses and the community. The 2008 Hampton Roads Corporate Volunteerism Report was created to act as a guide to Corporate Social Responsibility. The piece was distributed at the Annual Meeting of the HRCVC and was included with the December issues of Virginia Business magazine which reached over 8,000 readers. The purpose of this piece is to encourage corporate volunteerism within the community and recognize the outstanding volunteer efforts that our members have made. Since distribution, we have increased membership of the HRCVC by 16 percent.

The purchase of Adobe InDesign CS 3.0 not only helped us communicate with our constituents professionally, it has improved our bottom-line. We are able to create professional publications in-house, reserving dollars for more programmatic functions.
