Question 1
The Before: What was the challenge, issue or problem your organization was facing? Or, what was the opportunity you were not able to take advantage of before you put a technology solution in place?

Answer: The challenge was matching children and their families with fun and educational volunteer opportunities within the communities in which they live and go to school. There was a huge opportunity to match volunteering experiences in the community to interests of today’s children and educate them on the benefit of learning what it means to volunteer at a young age and carry that into adulthood.

Question 2
What Microsoft software have you used/are you using in your organization to more effectively engage your beneficiaries, donors and/or volunteers and/or to make a difference in your community?

Answer: Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010 (Includes any of the following: Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, OneNote, Outlook, and Word)
Other: Microsoft Project

Question 3
The After: How have these Microsoft products allowed you to engage your stakeholders more efficiently or effectively to make a difference in your community?

Answer: Microsoft technology has given us an opportunity to engage our stakeholders by collecting information from registrants and matching them with additional volunteer opportunities via an outward facing online database. Through our online database, we allow partners to register events and constituents to sign up for these events. Our database is structured to segment our data for reporting and tracking. Our core operational business structure is supported using Microsoft Office programs. Office programs are utilized for agendas, reports, finances, and tracking and grant writing. Microsoft Project was used to schedule resources, set goals, milestones, and track critical processes throughout - this has been critical when building the business to our stakeholders and core team.

Question 4
What about these products (the features or the way you used them) made them particularly helpful in enabling your organization to expand and improve upon its community impact?

Answer: Microsoft's technology was especially helpful in the expansion of the organization by making it more scalable with a SQL database. Scalability enabled kidServe to handle large amounts of data and empower partners to participate in order to support their organization in tandem with kidServe. These relationships have strengthened the community as a whole and build invaluable relationships.

Question 5
Please provide any examples, stories or data that illustrate the difference the use of Microsoft software has enabled you to make (i.e., # of new clients reached, new program added, increased dollars raised, increased volunteers, etc.

Answer: kidServe has been able to build up our database of volunteers, non-profit partners and constituents through the database we run on the SQL server. When we started kidServe, we had a databse with the names of our founders only, but through visits to our website, social media, published brochures, local community fundraising and printed press we have built a database of well over 1000 names in a little under one year. Storing this information and being able to access it through the databse we run on the Microsoft SQL server has helped kidServe to have a pulse on our community and the needs of our kids and the non-profits we serve.
