Impact Essay

The Covenant with Henderson County The Council on Aging for Henderson County established in early 2009 The Covenant with Henderson County. As we celebrate our 40th Anniversary, this is our agency’s promise to the older adults of Henderson County that we are here now to offer them services and that we will be here in the future. Specifically, there are two components to the Covenant with Henderson County; the Annual Fund Campaign and the newly formed Endowment Fund. The Annual Fund Campaign consists of a pledging program, a multi-year giving society and all fundraising events. Funds raised through the Annual Fund Campaign are used for immediate, ongoing needs to offer the programs and services needed for the older adults of Henderson County. These programs include Meals on Wheels, the Partnership for Independent Living, the Healthy Aging Coalition, Congregate Meals and the Sammy Williams Center for Active Living. The newly created Endowment Fund will help secure the needed funding to ensure that the programs and services of the Council on Aging are available to older adults throughout Henderson County for many years into the future. Council on Aging and Microsoft So much of any campaign, whether a fundraising campaign or an educational campaign, is getting the information out there in front of the people that need to see it. The partnership between Microsoft and Techsoup has allowed the Council on Aging to do just that. We work with a very tight budget and often finding the money for technology upgrades is not easy. Techsoup has allowed us to keep up with the technology that we need to make sure we can make our fundraising events happen in a professional manner. As part of the Covenant with Henderson County overall campaign we have created brochures, informational sheets, newsletters, fundraising letters and general information pamphlets about the agency, our programs and ways that people can be involved; either by volunteering their time or making a monetary donation. In addition, we are preparing to launch an E-Newsletter to our donors, volunteers and friends that have provided us with their email addresses. This will enable us to further contact and educate our donor base in a highly cost effective manner. The Future

The future looks bright for the Council on Aging for Henderson County. Without solid partnerships like the one between the Council, Microsoft and Techsoup many of these fundraising activities that are making the Covenant with Henderson County so successful would be impossible. This effort has allowed us to, not only, raise funds but raise awareness about our programs and services. The number of older adults over the age of 60 throughout Henderson County continues to grow. The technology upgrades made possible through the Microsoft and Techsoup partnership will allow the Council on Aging to be an active, integral part of the community for years in the future.
