Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
This piece is a postcard advertisement for the local community around St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Our goal with this piece is to open our doors to the community, which is something our church is very focused on right now. This postcard works well in conjunction with our latest outreach program, with which volunteers serve free lunch to local highschool students and other members of our community. The image captures the feel of our harbour city and also addresses the need in people's lives for direction, especially during these difficult times. The driftwood photo was taken of the beach just down the road from the church.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
The primary challenge we are adressing with this piece is the general "up tight" or "old fashioned" image of the Presbyterian church. St. Andrew's Nanaimo is moving in a fresh new direction and is excited to welcome new members from all walks of life. We are working towards creating a better image to that end. This postcard represents the changes that are happening within the church.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
This postcard is the latest in a string of new media pieces we are developing to provide a more accurate image of what our church is about. In just a short period of time we've already received a lot of positive feedback and our numbers are growing. General awareness about our little church and its mission is growing exponentially.
