Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
Rally is a piece we created to promote the McCann 16 Home Run Challenge. This is a promotion where people can donate a specific amount of money they will donate to the organization per home run that Brian McCann (MLB Atlanta Braves Player) hits in the 2010 baseball season. We asked that supporters pledge $1.60, $16, or $160 per home run he hit (his number is #16). Normally, we used the existing software templates that our email blast software gives us to use but by using Illustrator and Photoshop we were able to create something more appealing to the eye and not in the typical template format.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
We have been flagged many times for too many people reporting us as SPAM when we send out email blasts. We discovered that we needed to use Illustrator and Photoshop to create one large image with little text and an appealing design. We needed a design that was catchy to the eye, cause people to click, and not have people flag us as SPAM. Rally used these programs to create this piece and made the image clickable to encourage people to participate in the McCann 16 Home Run Challenge promotion. Our goal was to get our supporters to click on the image so that they would take part in donating towards this promotion while also trying to reduce our number of SPAM reports on the email blast when it was sent out.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
We now have more than $2,000 committed per home run Brian McCann (Atlanta Braves MLB Player) hits in the 2010 baseball season. People committed to being a part of this promotion thru the email blast. Also, we gained several media hits because of this email blast. Also, some of our supporters read the e-blast and then forwarded it to media contacts who did a press conference and press release about this promotion. It has now created both funds and a lot of awareness about the cause through baseball.
