- Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
- Placitas, New Mexico is a diverse, rural community of 4,500 people. Our all-volunteer Board of Directors believes that The Placitas Series (PAS) serves a vital function in Sandoval County, New Mexico by building a sense of community through commonly held interests in musical and visual arts, by supporting the work of musicians and artists, and by educating students in these areas.
- What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
- Placitas was originally settled in 1765 when Spanish settlers built a walled village, an extensive irrigation system, and started cultivating the land. Placitas has flourished and now it includes new residents, from many places throughout the United States, as well as descendants of the original Hispanic land grant families, and residents from our neighboring Pueblos. Placitas is known as an area that celebrates the arts and The Placitas Artists Series is one of the organizations that contributes to this artistic and culturally diverse quality of life for this historic rural community.
- How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
- For our 24th concert season, our goal is to reach a broader and more diverse audience. To do this, we are focusing on strengthening the visual impact of our concert season ticket brochure, program book, and website design. We have paired a theme for our concert season, "Celebrating New Mexico Roots", with the design and image used for our printed materials.The Sandoval Signpost, will feature a full page color advertisement for each of our nine concerts.This monthly newspaper and website, www.sandovalsignpost.com, focuses on local and regional news of interest to our community, and also includes articles on The Placitas Artists Series concert and our featured artists. Adobe software helped this project by enabling us to design, strengthen, and enhance the quality of our brand, beginning with our concert season ticket brochure.
