Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
The “OneVoice” marketing campaign was used to promote our annual conference & banquet dinner. We used the design for both web and print including posters, banners, fliers, & tickets. This design was innovative on many levels. From start to finish, the process from idea to actualization was thought out and storyboarded. We did not solely depend on the software to do the work. We wanted the concept to be meaningful, powerful, yet simple to digest. Rather then using stock-photography once the concept was finalized, we conducted our own photo shoot to capture the diverse members of our community. Never had a design emerged from within the Muslim community that highlighted our diversity.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
We wanted to address an ongoing problem within the Muslim community: division. Like many other religious communities, the Muslim community has been marred with dogmatic conflict and dispute often emanating from vices of pride and arrogance rather than sincere exercise of religious faith and reason. Labeling ultimately divide communities, and people often fall into arguments when they have different authorities or views. This conflict has created much violence, death, and destruction in the Muslim world. The Muslim greeting of peace (salaam) has never been as meaningless as it is today. “OneVoice” sought to remind people of the basic creed that defines the Muslim, and to look at the bigger picture, that we are united as being part of the human family. We hope that with this reminder, the main cause of dispute will eventually disappear as clarity of faith starts taking precedence in our lives.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
We gathered Muslims from different ethnic backgrounds and sects to illustrate unity. The message from “OneVoice” opened the idea that only when we are united as one voice can we move mountains and impact the universe for the better. “OneVoice” helped us further illustrate our mission as MeccaOne Media: “One People, One Message, One Life.” The conference topics & discussions attracted not only Muslims from different backgrounds, but people of other faiths as well.
