- Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
- We proudly submit our website for your consideration. Our nonprofit collects and distributes baby clothes to newborns in need free of charge in and around Oakland, California. We have distributed over 20,000 pounds in the last 3 years. When a baby onesie only weighs 7 oz. - you can see the impact we are making in the community.
The website serves may purposes: We teach others how to start a clothing drive in their own community, we let people know what we distribute, we showcase videos and articles about our efforts, and where to drop off donations and we give people to the opportunity to donate via paypal.
- What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
- Before the website, our nonprofit was word of mouth. People were treating us like Goodwill and donating all sorts of items: dirty older kids clothes, maternity clothes, strollers. We know their heart was in the right place, but sorting all those items took up our volunteers valuable time. The website (made with Adobe products) has given us a tool to streamline the information we give about what we accept, thus making the collections we receive much, much more focused.
- How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
- Our time now can truly be used to help collect and distribute baby clothes to newborns in need. 95% of the items we receive are EXACTLY what we need, and in the condition that we like. Before our website, 40% of the items needed to be discarded. Thank you for offering the tools to organize our efforts.
