Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
This collage is used to raise awareness of the Idaho AgrAbility Project. It illustrates simple or more involved innovations used to assist people with disabilities who are working on farms and ranches.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
Thousands of people working in agriculture sustain disabling injuries in work-related accidents each year. Thousands more acquire disabilities through non-farm injuries, illnesses, health conditions, and the aging process. The presence of a disability can jeopardize the rural and agricultural futures of these individuals.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
This submission is used to raise awareness of what the project does. By adapting equipment, modifying operations, promoting accessibility, and using assistive technologies, the majority of agricultural workers who have disabilities can continue to earn their livelihoods in agriculture and participate fully in rural community life. AgrAbility combines agricultural know-how with disability expertise to provide the assistance needed to make these changes through a variety of services.
